Founders Note
Hermis Haridas & Nisha Purushothaman
This is a special edition for the Founders, since in this edition we go back to the land where we were born and the very special forests of the Western Ghats to spend time with a bird that is not just an amazing creature but also one with a fascinating biology. These are animals that we personally have a deep connection with, we have spent days photographing and following these birds through dense forests and watching them collect fruit from trees that are hundreds of years old and trees that if cut down cannot be replaced quickly.
These birds are so vulnerable to forestry fragmentation and it is tragic that we have lost so much of this important habitat during our own lifetimes. Indeed this story is at the very heart of what we wish to achieve with Paws Trails, to bring awareness of the beauty and the special creatures that inhabit the forests in our own country and are being lost through habitat destruction. No single person will think that they were the cause of the demise of these hornbills and yet every one of us is responsible and every one of us should join our mission to preserve such beautiful forests. To date Paws Trails have been actively involved in replanting trees and we have planted thousands of trees over the past few years. Join us in this mission and help slow down habitat loss and encourage ecological restoration.
This August, Paws Trails launched yet another initiative for our worldwide community of nature lovers & photographers. We are dedicating a Year for the Wild – “365 Tales – by Nisha Purushotaman”.
